Tom Johnson, reciting.

Counting sheeps makes one sleep. But counting cows, wakes one up! Especially when they are indian cows come from times long past... Pioneer in minimalist music, the American Tom Johnson loves making systematic melodies, permutations and logical sequences, one minute operas or athletic tour de forces... This time, everything started with a mathematical problem posed by an Indian wise man from the XIVth century: if every year, one cow gives birth to one calf, and if from the fourth year on, every calf gives, in its turn, birth to a calf, what is the number of cows and calfs after seventeen years? Not that easy...but rather more amusing than one would think, as soon as this enigma is translated and solved into music.

Drinking and Hooting de John White (1968)
Les Vaches de Narayana (1989)
Things Whole and Not Whole (piece only played Sa at 18h and SU at 16h15)
