Guld!

Jacob and his family live close to the sea under an old tree. One day Jacob catches a very special fish. It looks at him with its big eyes and begs him: "Throw me back into the water, and I will make your wishes come true." Jacob puts the fish back into the water, and the fish does as it has promised. But for every wish that comes true, Jacob and his family just want more.

The work Guld! (Gold!) is created by the Dutch composer Leonard Evers and librettist Flora Verbrugge in 2012. They were inspired by the story from Grimms' Fairy Tales about The Fisherman and His Wife and put text and music in a contemporary context.
