The Mexican artist Israel Alonso, in collaboration with MetX, created a performance with the children from the 4th year of primary school De Luchtballon in Merksem. ‘Día de los Muertos', a Mexican folk festival to commemorate the dead, is the thread that runs through the workshops. Death is not to be feared, but celebrated exuberantly! During the preparation at school, the children get to know this tradition and learn to play different percussion instruments.

Usually, the NOMAD project takes place during our BIG BANG Festival. The pandemic may have postponed the project, but that did not mean the end! On Thursday 10 June 2021 the show will take place and the children will perform their dance of the Quetzalcóatl!

NOMAD focuses on the cultural wealth of the contemporary city. A professional musician creates together with a group of children. The children’s musical talents and cultural influences merge with those of the musician. BIG BANG provides a stage for the results.

With the cooperation of Academie Merksem.
