Oscar Beerten was born in Colombia, but grew up in Belgium. His fascination for the far north led him to Finland, where he immersed himself in the beauty of folk music and learned to play the hardanger violin. On BIG BANG he shares this passion with a young audience for the first time. He alternates traditional pieces from Norway, Sweden, Hungary and Poland with his own compositions in which the soul of Scandinavian folk resounds.
For this music room, Wolf De Backer joins us at the table. This versatile double bass player can boast a varied background within both jazz and classical music. Together, they play a clenched set with a healthy dose of improvisation: a subtle string duet that lets the past resonate, but in which the present is never far away.
