Re-Turn

Choreographer Karolien Verlinden earned many years of praise as a core member of the Tuning People collective. Recently, she has also been creating successful solo work. In FeL (2022), light played a prominent role, and during FRAMED (2023), the focus was on the blossoming bodies of young people.

With Re-Turn, Karolien explores the interaction between the sound of the audience and her performers at BIG BANG. A dancer specialising in flamenco, another in stepping and a double bass player embark on a quest for rhythm in movement. They stop, chase, accelerate and slow down. But it never becomes monotonous or boring.

Does rhythm always have to be in sound? Could the melody also be menacingly rhythmic, or the movement an uninterrupted tempo without sound? And when does rhythm become music? Curious to see how subtly the rhythm will manifest itself...
