A two-metre-high car wash brush that moves in response to sound
A two-metre-high car wash brush stands waiting in the middle of the hall. So do the musicians.
Who goes first?
In Queue/Cue, the collaboration between composer Thordur Hans Baldursson and his performers takes place via an unusual intermediary: a giant, rotating brush that listens, moves and responds. The musicians stand in line, waiting for their cue, and take their places one by one. Their sound sets the brush in motion. But the brush has a say too. It turns, curls, hesitates, springs back. Dancer or conductor? Both, and neither.
And perhaps, just perhaps, you too might set the brush in motion and suddenly find yourself part of a dialogue between human and machine, between control and surrender. Queue/Cue takes you from the familiar ritual of the car wash to the unpredictability of a live performance. Sound artist Thordur sees two sides of the same coin. You can decide for yourself which one is on top.
