At the crossroads of bear, vulture and whale lies a world of sound that belongs to no one
Somewhere in the darkness, something great awaits you. Something with a breath you feel before you hear it. With a weight that makes the ground tremble. And wings that displace the air.
In the sound installation Apex, you enter the territory of three animals that have fascinated and unsettled humanity for centuries: the bear, the vulture and the whale. Their sounds are not mere decoration. Keep the magical Wildlopers straight ahead of you, go exploring and wander around. That’s how you’ll discover how roars, screeches and gurgles transform into something you can no longer quite place.
Behind the sounds of it all lie the musicians of jazz ensemble De Beren Gieren. Pianist Fulco Ottervanger, bassist Lieven Van Pée and drummer Simon Segers have been exploring the boundaries between jazz, electro and the indefinable for years. With Apex, they leave their instruments behind and speak an ancient language: that of the animal. For at the crossroads of bear, vulture and whale lies a world of sound that belongs to no one. Except to you. If you dare, that is.
